Erica Hellerstein is an award-winning investigative journalist and feature writer based in the Bay Area. She has covered global human rights issues for more than a decade, reporting on-the-ground across the United States, Latin America, Africa, and Europe. She is currently a senior labor and economics reporter with the Bay Area-based newsroom El Tímpano. Her writing has been published in The Washington Post, The Atlantic, ELLE, Marie Claire, The Guardian, Noema Magazine, The San Francisco Chronicle, and The San Jose Mercury News, among others, and has been recognized by the Philip D. Reed Award for Environmental Writing, the Society of Professional Journalists, the Society of Environmental Journalists, the Online News Association, the San Francisco Press Club, the Association of Alternative Newsmedia, and the Clay Felker Prize for Excellence in Longform Print Journalism. Before joining El Tímpano, she worked as a senior reporter at Coda Story, a poverty and inequality reporter for The San jose Mercury News, and an investigative and political reporter for the North Carolina-based alternative weekly, INDY Week.
