Samantha C. Hamilton is Counsel with the Atlanta Community Press Collective.
She was previously the Georgia Journalism and Access Project Attorney in the University of Georgia School of Law First Amendment Clinic, where she counseled reporters across Georgia and represented them in litigation on media law issues such as access to public records, newsgathering, and publication liability. As the 2022-2023 First Amendment Fellow in The New York Times Legal Department, Hamilton litigated Freedom of Information Act cases on behalf of New York Times reporters and counseled them on state public records laws around the country. When she was a Justice Fellow at the civil rights law firm Loevy & Loevy, she litigated wrongful conviction and prisoners’ rights lawsuits in federal court in Georgia, Oklahoma, and Illinois.
Hamilton has provided trainings on access to public records, defamation, anti-SLAPP, and journalist safety to newsrooms, judges, and independent journalists. She serves on the boards of Prison Health News and the Georgia News Collaborative. She graduated from the University of California Berkeley School of Law with certificates in Public Interest & Social Justice and Law & Technology.
