Nicole Hernandez joined The Associated Press in 2023 as a News Editor on the Digital News Audience & Engagement Team. She first cut her teeth as a journalist at The Florida Times-Union/Jacksonville.com, going on to join The Boston Globe/BostonGlobe.com, where she was part of the Pulitzer-winning newsroom for the coverage of the Marathon bombings. She joined NPR in 2017, where she served as an engagement editor and supervising editor for six years. Hernandez' early childhood years in a cosmopolitan environment in Athens, Georgia, USA, taught her the importance of community and global connection, especially in moments of crisis. She chooses to practice journalism, specifically digital and engagement journalism, to make truth accessible to everyone. She and her husband live in the Washington, D.C., area with their cat and dog – who they hope one day will get along.
