Effective Intermediaries (RSVP)

With support from philanthropy, a range of organizations are building an entirely new ecosystem for local news to fill the void created by the collapse of the traditional newspaper business model. While organizations such as the American Press Institute, Indiegraf, Lenfest Institute, Local Media Association, Newspack, The Pivot Fund, Tiny News Collective, News Revenue Hub, Solutions Journalism Network and others are all having an impact, their respective roles are not always clear. Some news outlets see intermediary organizations as competitors for funding. Others question their ability to meet the unique needs of BIPOC publishers. And new arrivals often don’t know where to start looking for support.

This summit is designed to encourage transparency and open communication in the field. By asking ecosystem-building organizations to describe their unique strengths and challenges, we hope to inform the field and set the stage for collaboration, for example in supporting startups as they move through stages of development to become established, sustainable news outlets.

This session requires ONA24 registration and advance sign-up through the RSVP process. Navigation tip: The Embassy Rooms are in the International Tower and can be accessed through the Hyatt Lobby Level International Tower or from LL3.

• From the Lobby Level: When you are facing the hotel registration desks, walk towards the right, past the gift/convenience store until you see the elevators on your right. The escalators will be past the elevators. You will go down two levels.


• From LL3: Walk to the right side of this level (if facing away from the elevators/escalators and towards the central foyer area). You will go around the corner past the Canva Studio in Piedmont all the way down until you see the escalators and elevators. Go up one level.


• You cannot access the International Tower if you are on LL1 or LL2.
